Running Routine for April 20
The following was a scrapped story for nycmidnight’s 100-word Microfiction Challenge 2024. My group assignment was the following:
Genre: Drama
Action: Walking uphill
Word: rare
I had a blast devising the below story. However, as I worked to pare down the word count, I realized it didn’t fall cleanly within the drama genre requirement. Luckily, the running storyline stayed in my final version, while the following was crumpled up and thrown in The Waste Bin.
Enjoy!
Running Routine for April 20
As usual, please follow this routine to the best of your ability. As your trainer, I give my best to you both during and outside of our training sessions. Unfortunately, our “best” changes day to day (or so I’ve learned).
Exercise 1: Hill Climbs
Everest is too far away so we’ll have to settle for the hill on Baker St. 30 sprint ups. Feel free to give up in the middle. I know that’s a habit of yours.
Exercise 2: Intervals
On again, off again (the way you like it). 30 second sprints and 1 minute walks: 20 times. These really get the heart beating and then right when you’re in the groove, just stop completely. You’ll find it’s addicting.
Exercise 3: Speed Chute Sprints
15 times for 50 m. This really builds up the strength when you’re feeling “weighed down” by anything (or anyone).
Exercise 4: Hill Climbs (Again)
This time repeat until death occurs.
XOXO
