TEAAS 2022 Symposium

At the Themed Experience & Attractions Academic Society (TEAAS) 2022 Symposium, I was selected to share some of my research from my master’s thesis on diegetic worlds and their component parts.

The current trends of highly detailed storyworlds at major theme parks around the world has adopted the confusing terminology of “highly immersive lands.” (Is Fantasyland not also immersive in its own way?) Through research on the development of themed attractions and queues over time, these emerging and popular attractions depicting beloved IPs have been recontextualized as diegetic worlds, where queues—the place guests spend a majority of their time at attractions—become even more pivotal to storytelling and hyperdiegetic expressions of these storyworlds.
